About Daystar…

Daystar originally was birthed in 1984 as a response to requests from friends to record arrangements on a TEAC 40-4 1/4″ tape machine. Eventually that machine was replaced by a TEAC 80-8 1/2″ tape machine, and later by a Tascam 48 1/2″ deck. The 1/2″ machines were synchronized via SMPTE time code to an Atari 1040 STe computer running C-Lab Notator SL, which handled MIDI recording and playback to several sound modules. Audio recording was not yet possible on the computer

As technology changed, eventually Daystar moved over to hard-disk based systems like the Akai DR8 and DR16 and the Mackie HDR-24/96

As computer based implementations became more stable, it became feasible to switch over to computer recording software which could then record both MIDI and audio. Improvements in processor speed, memory, hard disk storage made it possible to record increased numbers of tracks with more stability, such that, now, dozens of audio tracks are easily handled

The studio has had 5 locations over the course of time – the first in my half of a duplex in Cherry Creek, then into my house in Mayfair near Stapleton Airport, then housed in an upstairs installation at Church In The City next to East High School in the heart of Denver. When CITC moved to its current location, there was no effective space to house the studio, so it was moved into my house in Cook Park. In 2020, having been remarried, my wife and I sold our properties and pooled up to purchase the Roxborough Park property and the studio was built in the lower level and has been transforming ever since into the facility it is today
